Microneedling

It is a medical practice that aims to stimulate the restructuring response by creating controlled small channels in the skin. It can be evaluated in some scars and tissue irregularities.

Overview

Microneedling uses the repair response of tissue through the controlled skin impact created by fine needles. Sunken acne scars, some surgical scars and surface texture problems are among the areas of evaluation; Not all scar types give the same response. The approach may change if there is active inflammatory acne, infection, or a significant keloid tendency. Recovery capacity and recent medications should be discussed in the preliminary consultation. The expected change is usually gradual and more than one session may be required. The effectiveness and safety of home devices should not be considered the same as medical practice. Improper application may cause infection, discoloration or new scars.

What is evaluated?

  • Assessment of whether scars are depressed or raised and whether active acne is present.
  • History of keloids, immune suppression, and slow wound healing is questioned.
  • Discussion of medications, including isotretinoin, recent sun exposure and aftercare requirements.

Approach and options

  • Medical microneedling can be considered alone for appropriate skin and scar types.
  • Combining it with other scar treatments may be considered for selected acne scars.
  • If there is active disease, it may need to be controlled first or a different treatment may be chosen.

Recovery and follow-up

Sensitivity, redness or temporary darkening of the skin similar to sunburn may occur. The times given for returning to care products and make-up are monitored. The result occurs gradually through skin restructuring. The number of sessions is re-evaluated based on initial reactions; Signs of increased pain or inflammation require control.
